Functional impairment was assessed according to Menzies et al. [27]; BBB impairment was measured as previously described by Michalski et al., [41, 44]; sample sizes for calculations in NBO-assigned animals: ranging from n = 8 to n = 11, and for calculations in HBO-assigned animals: ranging from n = 7 to n = 16.
